The Christ Portraits is a series that I first exhibited in April of 2001at the Elizabeth Collection Gallery in Rochester, New York.

I don't consider myself to be any more or less religious than the next person. I'm a Roman Catholic. I was an altar boy. I attended parochial school. I don't attend church on a regular basis, but I feel I truly live my religion.

Where has religion gone? My middle class childhood in the sixties seems long ago, lily white, so Leave It to Beaver-ish. What miles lie between today's popular morality and the religious ideals presented by the church. What if Christ appeared today?

The Christ Portraits evolved over the past two years, from a lifetime of questions that I continue to ask myself.

I started the series planning to portray the opposition of His presence in today's world. As the images came to life, I began looking for more positive associations between the Christ figure and the modern settings I chose. I ended seeking a balance between present awareness and hope.

The images were produced as visual questions. I invite you to interpret the body of work and pose the questions to yourself.
