Andy Warhol, Duane Michals and I were all born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Ohio University was where I acquired a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts / Photography in 1979. Upon graduation, I took my portfolio to New York City where great interest was taken in my work, but due to the recession, no job. I followed my brother to Rochester, New York, where I have made my home. |
| I enjoy shaping light and sharing my unique perspective with others. I am always trying to challenge myself and the viewer with some thing unique and different. My photographic accomplishments have included annual reports, rock n' roll promos and many local gallery showings. The Elizabeth Collection Gallery represents me, here in Rochester. I pride myself on the fact that none of my images have been altered digitally. Every image here is either as the camera saw it or manipulated in the darkroom. I simply use my computer as a tool to get my work out on the web. I hope you enjoy my images. |

“Dan is one fine artist. One is more often fascinated with the line than the subject of his work. There is real power and an intellectual sense in his final product. His work challenges me.” |
| Bill Wandersee, Art Collector |
| “I've shown Dan Olek's work many times in Rochester's gallery for local artists, High Falls. I hope to exhibit him many times more. He always brings me best idea shots, so well set, so beautifully printed. I have a lot of artists' work in my personal collection, but there's a Dan Olek in every room in my home. He's a creative thinker who applies his artistic sensibility to every step of the imaging process. In his hands the camera is an extraordinary tool and the final image is the best it can be.” |
